Alice F. Maldonado Hawkins

They called me "Penny" Alice Florence Maldonado Hawkins was loved and will be greatly missed. She was born on May ninth of 1938 in Brooklyn, New York. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother in law, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend to many. Survived by her three children, Robin Woods of Coral Springs; Robert Hawkins of West Palm Beach and Dorothy Anne Warnke of Pensacola Florida. She had seven grandchildren; James(deceased), Christopher, Annamarie, Angie,Samantha, Tabitha & Shawn. Five great grandchildren; James Jr, Alyssa, Brandon, Hannah & Tanner. Penny was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Maldonado (deceased), long term residents of Margate. She was a survivor of tuberculosis from a young age which effected her well in to her adolescent years. She overcame this obstacle with the heart of a survivor and helped her family make it through the great depression and two world wars.Her main priority at this young age was to the well being of her younger brothers; Raymond & Steven Maldonado of Jacksonville, Florida and her niece; Brenda Ekl of Spokane, Washington. Although unable to graduate high school, her contribution to the family was unmeasurable and she was very wise and independent, always bubbly, caring and giving. Her wish and priority in life were her children. She wanted them to love and cherish each other and to be there for each other when they needed each other. She worked and struggled her whole life with the hope that she would leave them in a better situation then the life she lived. Penny was a small woman with a big heart. Her fondest memories were from the time she served the young teens of this community as directing, coordinating, administrative duties such as parades and dances of the Margate Teen Center. During that time, she consoled, guided, inspired and instilled confidence and support to the teens of this community. Her hobbies and interests were camping, fishing, horror movies, Scobbydoo, dancing, singing, community service and her love for our Lord. She volunteered at the church thrift store at Our Lady Queen of Heaven in North Lauderdale. She was the Vice President at the Apple Green Condos in Margate on State Road 7. WE love you, rest in peace! A Celebration of Life Visitation will take place on Friday, July 23, 2010 from 12:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. at Savino Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located 2950 North State Road 7 Margate, Florida 33063. Burial will follow at the Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Savino Funeral Home & Cremation Services is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
