Eugene Walter Dow

Eugene W. Dow January 12, 1919 – July 17, 2011 Resident of Plantation, Florida passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011. He was born in Laconia, NH on January 12, 1919 to Walter Fennel and Mary Jane Dow(Bourque). Col. Dow, 92, served his country for 28 years as an officer in the ARMY Air Corps. His service included World War II and the Korean Conflict. Colonel Dow headed AV-LABS at Ft Eustis, Virginia as well as being the Aviation Advisor to the South Korean Government. During the flooding of the Netherlands in 1953, he rescued over 300 people from their rooftops in his helicopter. He received a letter of commendation from Queen Julianna Eugene was an avid golfer who also loved to fish and play cards. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and obtained his MBA from the College of William & Mary and an MPA from Nova University. Col. Dow is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita (BOYD) Dow, three daughters Jeanelle Fratianni, Jeaneen Dow and Jeanette Haybert, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Jeanie Kraft, two brothers Richard F. Dow of Sierra Vista, AZ and Ronald E. Dow of Worcester, MA The family suggests expressions of sympathy in Col. Dow’s name be made to Hospice By The Sea, 3600 Washington St., Hollywood, FL 33021 A Celebration of Life Visitation will take place from 7:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M.on Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at Savino-Weissman Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A Wake Service will take place during the visitation at 8:00 P.M. and will be officiated by Father Ivan Toledo.
