Matteo Dies

Matteo Dies’ Life Legacy Dad was born August 15, 1923 and passed away peacefully in his sleep March 12, 2012. He was 88 years old. He was born in Vieste, Foggia, Italy, the son of Guiseppe and Guiseppine Dies. Dad was the eldest of 5 siblings, Antonio (who is deceased), Michale, Sandeen, Salvatore (whom he was closest with), Meline and Nunzia. Dad lived in Vieste for 34 years, where he met his wife Vincenza Santoro of almost 60 years, and started their family together. Two of their 4 children, Joseph, married to Cindy (Hogg) and Angela, married to Joe Safi, were born in Vieste while the other two, Pietro and Mario, were born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. While in Vieste, Matteo, a man of many talents, ran his father’s vineyard, managed an olive manufacturing facility, learned the masonry trade and served in the Italian Military as a soldier during World War II. Seeking a better life for his family, in 1957, Matteo and Vincenza moved to Winnipeg. There, he worked in the construction field, primarily constructing roads, working many long hours to support his family. Wishing to be closer to friends and family, in 1973 he and the family immigrated to Worcester, MA. There he worked many years as a steel fabricator until his retirement to Deerfield Beach, Florida, in 1986. While retired, along with relaxing at the beach, his happiest moments were spent watching his two grandsons, Chris and Mike, grow up into young men. Dad enjoyed a long healthy life of 88 years. He spent hours upon hours, pleasurably growing the best garden of fruits and vegetables the neighbors had ever seen. He loved the card game of Scope, and was very competitive. As for sporting events, he loved WWF Wrestling more than anything and screamed at the tv while watching the matches. To this day, he was convinced that WWF Wrestling was real!!! Finally, he and mom were world travelers sampling the best of life in countries like Italy, Canada, US and Australia. Those that knew him, say he can best be described as an honest, loyal, hardworking, responsible, caring, serious, father that had a terrific sense of humor. He will sorely missed by everyone, especially his wife and lifelong partner, Vincenza. Rest in Peace. A Celebration of Life Visitation will take place on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 12:00 P.M. - 1:00 P.M. at Savino-Weissman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located directly across the street from Northwest Medical Center on 441 south of Sample Road, 2950 North State Road 7 Margate, Fl 33063, 954.977.5244.
