Marie Augusta Seeger Schmidt Born October 4th, 1912 Manhattan, NY Died July 11th, 2011 Coconut Creek, FL Marie A Schmidt was born from German parents, Augusta Pinkenell and Ferdinand Seeger. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, the oldest of 4 children, 2 sisters, Wilma and Erna and 1 brother Freddie. On January 18th 1929 she Graduated from the Miner’s Business Academy, in Brooklyn, NY and went on to work at the Brooklyn Union and Gas company as a Bookkeeper She married Fred Schmidt on October 23, 1937. Fred was a cook in the US Army in WWII. They resided in the Bronx, NY and opened a German Deli in which Marie would make the salads and Fred would make candy, chocolates and ice cream. They were proud members of the Mason’s in NY in which her husband Fred had attained the ranking of King. Marie and Fred traveled around Europe visiting places like Germany and Paris. In 1962 her mothers health was failing, Marie would take the train daily from the Bronx to Brooklyn to care for her. Finally after many months Marie moved her mother in to live with her until her death in July 1963. In the late 60’s to early 70’s Fred and Marie sold the Deli in the Bronx and Marie took a part time job at Wanamaker’s. After her husband Fred Died in 1972 at age 67, Marie at age 62 got her drivers license, sold her home and all its belongings and drove with her best friend Laura to the West Coast of Florida. She bought a condo in Five Towns, located in St Petersburg, FL and became treasurer for condo association. Aunt Marie had an abundance of friends and an abundance of interests. She worked part time at Sears, and loved to travel, whether it be by airplane, cruise ship or bus she enjoyed life. Her passion was playing cards and bingo with her friends and hated to lose. She also attended many parties in the club house. Marie and her best friend Laura often would enjoy setting up a table at the community garage sale and selling various things. Laura and Marie made costume jewelry. At age 90, when most of her friends in St Petersburg had passed away, she moved to the East Coast of Florida and settled in an independent living community in Margate, FL called Regency Residence. For many years she enjoyed all the activities, including music and entertainment, arts and craft projects, bus rides to the stores, playing Rummy Cube, Pokeno, UNO and Bingo with her new friends. At age 97 Aunt Marie moved for the last time to the Township in Coconut Creek, FL to live with her niece Janice Jones and close family friend Lynn Martini. She enjoyed her many trips to the penny arcade, Isle Casino, restaurants and stores, often being amazed at all the new items and technology available. She also enjoyed all the visits from our neighbors and friends, who would treated her with such kindness For ALL of her almost 99 years she never stopped wanting to learn new things. Aunt Marie was an amazing woman who had amazing life She lived her life to the fullest, HER WAY! She was a thoughtful, caring, intelligent woman, who was very organized, efficient and had a strong will. She was a good sport and had a great sense of humor She told it like it was! She was a hard worker all her life and always stayed abreast of the latest world news and current events. A few of her favorite TV shows were Antique road show, Lawrence Welk, Everyone Loves Raymond and CNN Aunt Marie we will miss our morning coffee and our evening ice cream cones, that we shared together, but I think what we will miss most is hearing you say “Good night Girls!” At the end of every evening.
