THE ADVENTURES OF TERRI BROWN Toba “Terri” Brown was born in New York City on April 27th, 1933 and passed away after a courageous and tenacious battle with pancreatic cancer on February 26th, 2011. She is survived by her children Jo Ann, James and Laura, and her grandson Christopher. She was predeceased by her husband Saul Brown and her granddaughter Vanessa. Born Toba Guttman to Sally ‘Sadie’ Speigler and Howard Guttman, she spent most of her formative years in the care of her Aunt Lillian and Uncle Harry Lerner while her mother worked. While in college she met and married Frank Roger Qual. They had 3 children together: Jo Ann, James and Laura. In the 60’s she moved with her children to Miami Florida to live with her mother. Putting her accounting skills to use she helped David Taub while employed at the Governors Cafeteria, with his endeavors for the Jewish community. At Omni in Miami she worked for a carnival located in the shopping center. She accompanied the carnival when it went on the road. While in a country in South America, civil unrest shut the carnival down; they had to abandon the equipment and get out of the country. With their passports confiscated, Terri still gave up her seat on the plane to another young member of the troupe. She was eventually able to get out with the help of the U.S. embassy. Back in Miami she honed her skills by doing the accounting for the Miami Beach Apartment Management Company until the travel bug bit again. The next adventure found her working in the Grand Bahamas and Cat Cay until a problem with her liver forced her back to Miami. Thanks to a liver donated by a motorcycle accident victim (whose family we have never been able to thank enough!) Terri was able to continue her colorful life. After recovering from the liver transplant and the resulting complications, she married her long-time friend Saul Brown. Together they had many adventures traveling the globe. Across the U.S., to Canada and Alaska to a Euro-rail tour of Europe, these were some of Terri’s happiest days. After the death of her husband Saul, Terri decided to make a change and entered the Real Estate business. She found pleasure in helping people find their dream home. Continuing in bookkeeping Terri’s final job before retirement was with the Dehoernle Alzheimer’s Pavilion in Deerfield Beach, Florida. While there she adopted Pebbles and Bambam, 2 adorable kittens. In July Terri was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Even without the options of operation or chemo-therapy, she fought in every other way possible, but finally succumbed the morning of February 26th 2011.
